IPTV Smarters Pro is the app most US and Canadian viewers load their first IPTV subscription into — and the app whose menus still confuse them a week later. This guide covers how to use IPTV Smarters day to day: logging in with your Xtream Codes details, reading the home screen, finding your channels fast, building a favorites list, mastering the EPG, using catch-up and VOD, and fixing the handful of problems that trip almost everyone up.

One thing this guide deliberately skips is installation. If the app isn't on your device yet, follow our IPTV Smarters Pro installation guide (or the Firestick walkthrough) first, then come back. And if you're still deciding whether Smarters is even the right app for you, our IPTV player guide compares it against TiViMate, IBO Player Pro, and the other options ZyroTV supports.

Logging in with the Xtream Codes API

Smarters offers several login methods on its first screen, but for a subscription service like ZyroTV you want one specific option: Login with Xtream Codes API. It loads live TV, movies, series, and the program guide in one go — an M3U file login often loads channels only, with no VOD sections and no EPG. Your provider's welcome email contains the three things you need: a username, a password, and a server URL.

  1. Open IPTV Smarters and tap Add New User (or Add User from the profile icon if an account already exists).
  2. Choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
  3. Any Name: type whatever you like — "Living Room," your name — it's just a label for this profile.
  4. Enter the username and password exactly as sent. Both are case-sensitive, and a capital I and lowercase l look identical in most email fonts — copy and paste when you can.
  5. Enter the server URL, including the port number if one is shown (the part like :8080 at the end).
  6. Tap Add User. Smarters downloads your channel list and VOD library — give it 30–60 seconds on the first login.

⚠️ Two login mistakes cause almost every failure

First: the server URL usually starts with http://, not https:// — typing the "s" out of habit (or letting your keyboard autocorrect it) is the single most common cause of an "invalid details" error with a perfectly good account. Second: some providers issue a dedicated server URL just for Smarters that differs from the general M3U or portal address. If your credentials fail in Smarters but work elsewhere, check your welcome email for a Smarters-specific URL or ask support before assuming the account is dead.

The home screen, explained

After login you land on a dashboard of large tiles. It looks busier than it is — you'll live in four of them:

TileWhat it opensWhen you'll use it
Live TVAll live channels, organized into category groupsDaily — this is where the actual TV lives
MoviesThe on-demand film library, sorted by genreMovie night; supports resume
SeriesTV shows organized by season and episodeBinge watching with episode tracking
EPG / TV GuideA cable-style program grid of what's on now and nextPlanning your evening, checking game times
Catch UpPast broadcasts on channels with archive supportReplaying something you missed (provider-dependent)
Multi-ScreenUp to four live streams on one displaySports Sundays — with a caveat covered below

The top bar matters too: the magnifying glass is global search, the profile icon switches between accounts and refreshes your content, and the gear icon opens the settings that decide how smoothly everything plays.

Finding channels fast — US and Canada groups

Open Live TV and you'll see category groups down the left side. Providers serving North America typically prefix groups by country and genre — patterns like US | Sports, US | News, US | Locals, CA | Sports, CA | Entertainment — so a 30,000-channel list stops being a wall and becomes a set of drawers. Three habits make navigation instant:

Favorites: build your own 20-channel lineup

The single biggest usability upgrade in Smarters takes five minutes. On a TV device, highlight any channel and long-press the OK/select button on your remote — a menu appears with Add to Favorites. On a phone or tablet, tap the heart icon on the channel row. Every channel you mark lands in a Favorites group pinned to the top of your Live TV categories.

💡 Curate 15–20, then stop

Add the channels you actually watch — your locals, your sports networks, your news channel, the kids' channels — and treat Favorites as your home base. Removing one works the same way: long-press and choose remove. A tight favorites list turns a 30,000-channel service into the 20-channel TV you actually wanted, without losing access to the rest.

Using the EPG (and fixing its two classic problems)

The EPG is the program grid — channels down the side, time across the top, like a cable guide. If the concept is new, our explainer on what an EPG is in IPTV covers how the data gets to your app. In Smarters you reach it from the EPG tile on the home screen, or inside Live TV by switching the layout to the guide view.

Two problems account for nearly every EPG complaint:

1. The guide is empty. EPG data downloads separately from the channel list and can take several minutes after first login. If it never fills in, force it: open the profile icon and refresh the EPG (or go to Settings → EPG and update from there), then give it a few minutes. Still blank on one channel but fine elsewhere? That channel simply has no guide data from the source — the stream itself is unaffected.

2. The times are wrong. If every listing is offset by the same number of hours, that's a timezone mismatch between the EPG source and your device.

🔑 The time-shift fix

Go to Settings → EPG → Time Shift and adjust in one-hour steps until listings line up with what's actually playing. A viewer in Toronto or New York with a guide running three hours ahead needs a shift of -3, not a new subscription. This one setting resolves most "my EPG is wrong" complaints.

While you're in the EPG settings, enable automatic refresh (covered in the settings table below) so the guide stays current without manual updates.

Catch-up: replaying what you missed

Where your provider supports it, catch-up (sometimes labeled TV archive) lets you replay past broadcasts — typically the last several days — on supported channels. Open the Catch Up tile, pick a channel that shows archive availability, choose a day, and select the program from the guide list. Two honest caveats: not every channel carries catch-up even on services that offer it, and the archive depth varies by channel. If the tile is empty, your provider's plan may not include archive on your lineup — it's a provider feature that Smarters merely displays, not something the app can add.

Movies and series: navigating VOD

The Movies and Series tiles open poster-grid libraries sorted into genre categories, with their own search. With a ZyroTV login that's 120,000+ movies and series to scroll, so search and the "Recently Added" category are your friends. Useful mechanics most people miss:

Multi-screen: four games, one TV — one catch

The Multi-Screen tile splits your display into up to four live streams — a Sunday-afternoon dream during football season. Pick a layout, then assign a channel to each pane; the pane you select carries the audio. The catch: each pane is a separate stream, and each stream uses one connection from your plan. On a single-connection plan, the second pane simply won't play — this is the feature that makes a 2- or 3-connection plan worth it for sports households, along with the bandwidth to match (figure roughly 10–15 Mbps per HD stream, so four panes want a fast connection).

External players: when to switch to VLC or ExoPlayer

Smarters ships with a built-in player and quietly supports handing playback to another engine — the built-in alternative decoders, or an installed app like VLC. This is the fix for a specific family of problems: the stream connects, but plays badly.

✅ Stick with the built-in player when…

  • Everything plays smoothly — don't fix what isn't broken
  • You want EPG overlay and channel switching to feel native
  • You're on a low-power device where an extra app adds overhead

⛔ Switch player or decoder when…

  • You get audio with a black screen (or video with no sound)
  • One channel stutters while others play fine
  • Aspect ratio or subtitles misbehave on specific streams
  • 4K streams jerk while HD is smooth (try hardware decoding)

To change it: Settings → Player Selection lets you assign a different player for Live, Movies, and Series independently; within the built-in player, Settings → Player Settings → Decoder switches between hardware, software, and native decoding. The rule of thumb: hardware decoding for smooth 4K on capable devices, software decoding when a specific stream's format confuses your device's chip. Change one thing, test the problem channel, and change back if it didn't help.

The settings that actually matter

Smarters buries a lot under the gear icon. These are the five worth touching:

SettingWhereWhat to do
Stream formatSettings → Stream FormatLeave on Default; try switching between HLS and MPEG-TS only if streams fail to open at all
DecoderSettings → Player SettingsHardware for smooth high-bitrate playback; software if specific channels glitch
EPG auto-refreshSettings → EPGEnable automatic updates so the guide refreshes itself daily
Time shiftSettings → EPGCorrect guide times that are offset by whole hours
Parental controlsSettings → Parental ControlLock adult categories behind a PIN — and change the default PIN (commonly 0000) to your own

Managing multiple playlists and accounts

Smarters treats each login as a separate user profile. Tap the profile icon in the top bar to add another account, switch between them, or log one out. That's useful in three real situations: running two providers side by side while you decide which to keep, keeping a second regional playlist for another country's channels, and separating a kids' profile (with parental controls) from the main one. Switching takes two taps and each profile keeps its own favorites and settings. Logging a user out deletes its downloaded channel list from the device — your subscription itself is untouched, and logging back in restores everything.

Quick troubleshooting table

The four problems that generate most support messages, and the fix order that resolves them:

SymptomMost likely causeFix, in order
Stream freezes or buffersInternet dip, overloaded device, or decoder mismatchSwitch away and back to the channel; check your speed (10–15 Mbps per HD stream, ~25 Mbps for 4K); restart the app; try a different decoder
EPG is emptyGuide data not yet downloadedRefresh EPG from the profile icon or Settings → EPG; wait a few minutes; enable auto-refresh
Guide times are wrongTimezone offsetSettings → EPG → Time Shift, adjust in one-hour steps
"Invalid details" or "account expired"URL typo (https vs http), wrong Smarters URL, or a lapsed subscriptionRe-check the server URL and port; ask support for a Smarters-specific URL; if the plan genuinely ended, renew and log straight back in — your favorites survive

If a login stops working on renewal day, that's not a bug — subscriptions are time-limited by design, and reactivation is instant once a renewal is processed. ZyroTV's 24/7 WhatsApp support can confirm account status in minutes if you're unsure which case you're in.

The five-minute setup that makes Smarters feel like real TV

Put together, here's the whole workflow this guide recommends after a fresh login: refresh the EPG and set time shift so the guide is trustworthy, add your 15–20 favorites so Live TV opens on channels you care about, enable EPG auto-refresh, set a parental PIN if kids share the device, and leave every other setting alone until a specific problem sends you to the table above. Do that once, and IPTV Smarters stops feeling like software and starts feeling like television.
